Q:
A layer of paint. What role does this play in your idea of painting? In your process or in your understanding of a painting as a record of time?

A:
Layers in a painting imply linear chronology, starting at the bottom building up.  I'm trying acknowledge that logic and counter it with marks that don't comply.

Q:
What's at stake for you in the way you choose to picture the idea of "crisis"?

A:
Freezing a moment of tension in order to examine it from different angles, inside and outside.

Q:
Why do you partition the space in your paintings?

A:
The division is a way to bring the edge into the frame and make a space beyond.
